Welcome to Atlanta

The second 2012 International Leadership Development Programme (ILDP) study tour will be based in Atlanta, Georgia (Sunday 13 - Thursday 17 May) and will focus on business and HE partnerships. The March 2012 run of ILDP to Hong Kong is fully booked.

Atlanta has one of the fastest growing economies in the US, and is it’s 8th largest metropolitan area, with over 5 million residents. It is home to 10 Fortune 500 companies, as well as many highly ranked public research universities and well respected private colleges and institutions. IDLP Atlanta will include visits to a wide range of HEIs across the state of Georgia, and it will begin with a welcome from the British Consul General, Annabelle Malins. It will include a talk from the vice-president responsible for Internationalisation at the University of Georgia. There will be a visit to the Georgia Institute of Technology – HE business partnerships & alliances will be the focus of that day, and also to the private for profit University of Phoenix. The founder and editor of Inside Higher Ed (the online daily newspaper on university issues), Scott Jaschik, a former editor at the Chronicle for Higher Education and a leading voice on US higher education issues, will give a presentation - HE as a business: Issues & Implications in the News.

This four-day tour trip will be intense, but delegates will return with a greater sense of comparative perspectives from the US and an insight into the leadership challenges. In addition, they will have begun a new network with the co-participants on the programme and with contacts in the Southeast region of the US. The programme directors are the Leadership Foundation’s Professor Robin Middlehurst and Dr Tom Kennie, who also lead the Top Management Programme.
