The Change Academy is an innovative approach to institutional problem solving and change that brings together teams of people from across the organisation to tackle real life leadership challenges. We can help institutions plan and deliver in-house Change Academies and other change programmes as part of our consultancy offering.

In a partnership between the Higher Education Academy and the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education, institutions take part in a residential programme which helps teams from across academic and professional services departments to develop the knowledge, capacity and enthusiasm for achieving complex institutional change.

We created the Leadership Foundation Coaching Academy, dedicated to Higher Education, about three years ago and it has grown quite substantially since then. We have brought together and developed a group of very experienced coaches, all of whom have worked in a substantial range of institutions in the sector.

We are increasingly asked to offer this service to those in the most senior positions, and we have recently repositioned the service to offer at that level. This builds on our experience of coaching on the Top Management Programme and our practice of confidential advice and support to Vice-Chancellors.

At a time when everyone is searching for value for money, in-house programmes can be a cost effective way of enhancing the leadership skills of a larger number of participants, on a programme where they will be focused on their own environment and institution's needs. We have a solution. Higher education is now acutely aware of the need to develop a strategic approach to the student experience that supports the institution’s corporate strategy. This means that the institution must define measures of success for the student experience, set out an agenda for action and establish a mechanism for monitoring progress. But how do you assess the success of your method? Benchmarks and targets are set but all too often we become too close to the topic and lose the ability to really assess the results. An outside view from someone who is immersed in the needs of higher education and the students can be a key asset, providing options and alternatives to current strategy.
