2 January 2013
By Dr Mark Pegg, chief executive
I took over as the new chief executive officer of the Leadership Foundation on 1 January 2013. It is an exciting time with lots of opportunities. My goal is to lead the Leadership Foundation into a new era of leadership development for the higher education sector – to provide the right services universities need at the right time to help them take on tough challenges they face in a rapidly changing world.
Re-energise, renew - my team want to inject new energy, new thinking and creativity into our offer. Vice-chancellors tell me they need a new generation of high quality leaders with new skill sets and new perspectives if they are to grow and flourish in an increasing demanding, globally competitive market with major changes in UK policy leading rapid changes in learning processes and radical changes to their business model. The best organisations have leaders at every level to help them succeed and the Leadership Foundation must be there for them to help make it happen.
Client Driven - prior to taking on my new role I met and talked to as many clients, funders and key stakeholders as I could about the leadership challenges they face. They all said they valued new leadership development as a strategic priority and wanted to see continuing quality and value added, but more than ever in these hard times to see real value for money too. I hope my experience in building a custom executive education business ranked No1 in the UK by the FT will be something I can draw on to meet this need.
Among the key messages they had for the Leadership Foundation were to hear more thinking from us about cutting edge personal and organisational development: to be well placed to understand their diverse and specific needs, to understand their values and their culture, and be able to deliver innovative learning processes that engage with a discerning audience. They want a provider who develops high quality leaders who make a real difference day to day, bringing added value to their University.
