We are pleased to announce that our Essentials of Leading for Sustainability will take place on Tuesday 23 April at The Brigade, a social enterprise, based in a converted Victorian fire station, that together with the Beyond Food Foundation offer people who have been at risk of or have experienced homelessness the opportunity to take part in an apprenticeship programme. This life changing opportunity provides the qualifications and personal mentoring necessary to ensure every apprentice is able to find sustainable employment in the future. The Brigade also reinvests a percentage of their profits into other social enterprise and charities.
The Brigade is also supported by PWC; whose UK/European offices opposite are one of the UK’s most environmentally friendly. PWC have recently completed one five-year cycle of their sustainability performance and have renewed their commitments to ‘decouple’ their business from its negative impacts but halving materials and waste, cutting their carbon by a quarter as well as tackling social exclusion in communities, setting up social enterprise to help homeless people get back on their feet and a centre for social impact to advance social understanding of social values.
PWC will be offering delegates a chance to tour their building during the Essentials of Leading for Sustainability event.
Who should apply? Subject leaders, heads of professional and academic departments, and those with a cross-institutional remit who want sustainability to play its part in their wider leadership role. This event will focus on the opportunities for embedding sustainability principles into learning and teaching, research and professional services and is designed specifically for people leading at departmental and institutional levels who do not have a sustainability or carbon-reduction background.
