Horizon Scanning: What will higher education look like in 2020? a report co-funded by the UK HE International Unit and Leadership Foundation for Higher Education was published today (25 September 2913). The launch event was attended by senior leaders and international specialists from universities and higher education colleges from around the UK.
Horizon Scanning was conceived as a follow-up piece to Internationalisation of HE: A Ten-Year View, a paper written for the UK government in 2008 by Professor Sir Drummond Bone. This is the fourth research report that the Leadership Foundation has published this year. The previous reports looked at the contexts and ethics of internationalisation (Grant, January 2013), internationalising the curriculum (Sayers, January 2013) and using international agents (Brabner & Galbraith, 2013).
Horizon Scanning was produced by a team led by Dr William Lawton of the Observatory on Borderless Higher Education. The Observatory team conducted numerous telephone and email interviews with international professionals, and supplemented by desk research, they also investigated and analysed current trends and evolution in the higher education sector, and provided a look forward to what it might look like in 2020. A short summary of the report is available here. Please note that this publication will be available online only.
