Senior Research Leaders’ Programme for St David’s Day Group
Date: Monday 22 - Friday 26 July 2013

We are delighted to confirm that the Department for Business Enterprise, Technology and Science of the Welsh Government, together with HEFCW, has commissioned the Leadership Foundation to develop a bespoke programme for 20 research leaders in the universities of the St David’s Day Group. This brand new programme will enable them to support the development of leadership skills of academics developing and implementing institutional research and innovation strategies.

The Senior Research Leaders’ Programme is designed for Pro Vice-Chancellors (Research) and Research Deans but can include Research Directors of major university departments, or centres. It will help them to develop strategic leadership skills and support participants in their development of institutional research and innovation capacity. It will enable participants to acquire a clear understanding of the emerging national and international research policy and funding landscapes, and explore how this translates to their own institutional strategies. The programme will include contributions from international speakers, research leaders, entrepreneurs and policy makers as well as visits to leading research centres. Participants’ learning will be underpinned by 360-degree feedback and one-to-one coaching. Part of the purpose of this programme is to develop strategic networks at a senior level.

We have invited Vice-Chancellors from the St David's to nominate four colleagues to participate in the programme. The Welsh Government and HEFCW have jointly invested £60,000, two thirds of the cost, of running the progamme. This means that we are able to offer each place on the programme at a minimal investment of £1,475 per person.

The nomination deadline has now passed for this programme.
