Our Small Development Project (SDP) scheme is a key benefit for Leadership Foundation members and was first launched in 2004, shortly after the Leadership Foundation was created. We have invested in well over 100 projects since then with a focus on a range of leadership, management and governance issues and providing case studies, toolkits, resources and development opportunities of benefit to our members, partner organisations and the sector as a whole. We typically launch a call for proposals (open to member institutions only) in late Autumn/Winter annually, with a view to selecting and awarding successful projects in the following Spring, with an expectation of completion within 12 months. Funding up to £10,000 is usually available. Occasionally we will invite proposals on a particular theme where we feel there is a particular gap in knowledge or practice. Small Development Projects are part of the Research & Innovation strand of our Strategy. Interim reports are made available alongside project summaries and, on completion, the reports and resources produced (see projects by year, below).

We are a membership organisation of and for a sector that has some of the brightest minds in the UK.
Our members are key to our strategy and form a community of higher education institutions with a clear commitment to and experience of developing leadership, governance and management capabilities at all levels. Academic and professional services staff from member institutions contribute to our programmes, projects and research and advise on benefits and services.
