The need for the effective governance of the UK's universities and higher education colleges continues to be a topical issue, and its importance will be highlighted even more prominently by the challenges facing many institutions in the current financial environment. The issue of what constitutes an effective governing body continues to be a major issue facing universities and higher education colleges and their stakeholder bodies, and is the topic of this summit.
This summit will disseminate the outcomes of a CUC/Leadership Foundation Hefce Leadership, Governance and Management Project on governing body effectiveness which for the first time seeks to 'map' the various factors involved in effectiveness, and present higher education with an optional framework for considering the effectiveness of their own governing bodies. The framework has been tested and validated during 2010 with the help of 16 volunteer governing bodies, and the results will be presented on the day. Find out more here
