Seminar for Student Governors

23rd September 2010

The challenge of balancing responsibilities towards the student body with those for the corporate governance of the institution, is probably the main difficulty a student governor has to face. The shortness of their term of office means that they will often have little or no chance of developing any in-depth experience of governing body meetings.

This seminar is intended to provide student governors, or those who anticipate becoming student governors, with information on how to perform as an effective governor within a higher education institution; and the opportunity to discuss issues and problems with both fellow students and experts in the field. This seminar, for new student governors, has been developed in conjunction with the Committee of University Chairs (CUC) and National Union of Students (NUS).

Price Member Institutions: £395*

More details and a booking form for this seminar can be viewed on the programme page or contact Tori Senior, Programme and Events Officer.

Location: Woburn House, Tavistock Square, London WC1H 9HQ

Governing in a Downturn

30th September 2010

With the reduction of Hefce funding alongside the other pressures from the current financial situation, institutions are having to rethink their strategy. So what questions should governors be asking?  How can they assure themselves the institution is managing and monitoring the risk? And, if the institution is to reduce its costs, what are the governors’ responsibilities with regard to the staff and the reputation of the institution?

Price Member Institutions: £395

More details and a booking form for this seminar can be viewed on the programme page or contact Tori Senior, Programme and Events Officer.
