The aims and context of the Higher Education Leadership 2010

The Higher Education Leadership Summit aims to bring together leaders and managers from across higher education institutions (HEIs) to:

Address the question ‘how can we be more agile and creative in preparing for the future?’
Consider current understanding of and approaches to fostering and harnessing innovation, creativity and technology in the UK and internationally
Experience practical applications and simulations that they can take back to their institutions
Engage in discussion about more strategic considerations associated with implementation
Develop an agenda – for their teams, their own institutions and the sector more widely – to make the most of such opportunities in future

CONTEXTS

UK higher education has survived and indeed thrived through many periods of turmoil. The longevity of higher education institutions suggests that the sector is ‘getting it right’ in delivering what they were established to do: the core business of teaching and learning, research and contribution to business, community and society.

The future is now even harder to predict. We can anticipate that we shall be operating in an increasingly challenging, competitive and complex world. The assumption is that leadership teams that are innovative and creative, who also put technology to maximum strategic advantage, will be amongst the ‘winners’ emerging from this difficult climate. Building in that ‘agility’ will be crucial to leadership capacity for change.
