The Leadership Foundation runs a number of events in Scotland throughout the year, many specific to Scottish HEI requirements.
LEADING SUCCESSFUL ENGAGEMENT:
GAINING THE SUPPORT OF EMPLOYEES AND EXTERNAL INFLUENCERS
Wednesday 20 April 2011, central Edinburgh
If its people are truly a University’s most important resource then what better time to ensure their full commitment and engagement than when all other resources are being restricted and cut back. As part of its support for the Scottish Higher Education Sector, the Leadership Foundation is running a one day event on engaging employees and external influencers. In a recession, with public funding being cut and a growing global higher education market, the performance of its employees and the support of local and political communities may prove to be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful institution.
We are pleased to confirm that the morning, which will focus on employee engagement, will be led by David MacLeod, co-author with Chris Brady, of ‘The Extra Mile: How to Engage Your People to Win’ and the Report to the UK Government titled ‘Engaging for Success: enhancing performance through employee engagement’, co-authored with Nita Clarke.
David will offer his insights and lessons on the topic of how to engage our people for success. He will do this by exploring that employee engagement is, why it matters and spend the majority of his time talking about how successful organisations engage their people to enhance performance. He will call on examples and insights drawn from his experience of leading organisations, on the work he undertook for ‘The Extra Mile’ and most importantly for the Report to the UK Government ‘Engaging for Success’. With this input and the experience of attendees the event will address the issues specific to delegates in the expectation that people leave the session with new insights and ideas which will address the issues they face in their organisations.
The afternoon Session will focus on influencing external stakeholders and be led by Joanna Buggy and Matthew Revett, senior managers of Grayling Scotland, part of the world’s second largest independent global Public Relations, Public Affairs, Investor Relations and Events consultancy in the world. Grayling regularly hold training events for organisations across the UK on both media and public affairs. They are well versed in the HE sector and in engaging with political stakeholders. The session will deal with stakeholder mapping, identifying and using a range of communication channels to reach influencers with examples of good practice drawn from both the UK and worldwide and finish with a session on working with local politicians along with tactics for engaging with them following the May election.
Sir Andrew Cubie, Chair of the Leadership Foundation of Higher Education and of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework will convene the event.
