In 2008 HEFCE and Salix Finance launched the Revolving Green Fund, to support universities in the reduction of carbon emissions. An evaluation of the fund shows that this has led to an overall reduction of some 2% each year. The second phase has been launched with £10m. available over 2 years for carbon reduction projects.
The Times Higher Education in a review, found that the sector had much still to do in this area, but a report published by the HEA and the NUS shows that sustainability concerns are significant is students' choices of university.
