The Governing Body and Regulation

The CUC Guide states that governing bodies should ensure that institutions comply with all relevant legal requirements. This can be extended to the requirements imposed by regulatory bodies. Governing bodies also have significant responsibilities for the use of resources, so will have particular interest in the impact of the regulatory regime on institutions.

It is important for governors to be aware of the terminology used in relation to the regulation of quality and standards. Quality is subject to a national regulatory framework, but standards are an essential element of institutional autonomy, the responsibility of the institutions themselves.
