The 2009-10 Governor Development Programme Seminars and Events brochure is now available.
The Leadership Foundation has been providing for the training and development needs of governors of higher education for the past four years and each year we aim to improve the provision that we offer.
In developing the programme of 19 sessions for the forthcoming year, we have responded to feedback from previous years. The events cover subjects not only for existing governors but also for those starting out as a governor, along with sessions for clerks/secretaries to governing bodies and senior managers closely involved in the governance of universities and colleges. This year's events incorporate:
New to the programme this year will be events looking at fundraising; marketing, and academic quality and student experience. We are sure that governors and institutions will find that all the events are well organised and good value events, offering plenty of opportunity to share good practice and debate current issues and challenges.
The first seminar of 2009-10 was the annual workshop for student governors, helping them to prepare for the task of balancing their responsibilities between the student and governing bodies. This was followed by Governing in a Downturn – a key event that will be repeated in February 2010, to consider how to ensure financial health, institutional morale and performance.

The Governor Development Programme was started in 2005 and built on the earlier initiatives of the Committee of University Chairs (CUC). The programme is designed to support governors in all higher education institutions throughout the UK (members of boards of governors, councils and courts in Scotland). A cross sector group is advising and supporting the development of the programme. The development plan for the period 2008 – 2012 (Word 273 KB) sets out the work to be undertaken in the next few years.
