The Charities Act 2011 came into force on 14 March 2012. This consolidates all of the provisions of the Charities Act 1993 and most of those of the 2006 Act.

 

The Protection of Freedoms Bill, if enacted as proposed, could affect higher education institutions, particularly in relation to unpublished research data.

A review of the Charities Act 2006, to be led by Lord Hodgson, has been announced by the Government. The process and timetable for the review has been published by the Cabinet Office.

The Charity Commission  published a new Risk Framework in January 2012 setting out its approach to regulatory role.

The Bribery Act 2010 came into force on 1 July 2011. PWC have prepared an analysis of the possible implications of the act for higher education institutions.

The Government has indicated its acceptance of and support for the recommendations in Reclaiming Health & Safety for all: An Independent Review of Health & Safety Regulation by Professor Ragner Lofstedt.
