A report on the effectiveness of governance in universities and colleges is to be released on 12 February 2009 by the Committee of University Chairs and the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.
The report seeks to provide a basis for universities and colleges to consider what makes an effective and high performing governing body, and how they can assess the added value that boards provide to their institutions.
The report draws upon research evidence from a number of sources, and suggests a framework by which governing body effectiveness can be assessed. If the framework is generally accepted within the sector, it is likely that a self-assessment tool will be piloted and then made available later in 2009 to those institutions, which wish to use it. Enquiries on the report should be made to its author Allan Schofield at allan.schofield@lfhe.ac.uk.
The report is to be presented at the Leadership Summit 2009.
