Melville Review published
The
independent review by Sir David Melville into issues arising from the clawback of funds from London Metropolitan University (LMU) in 2009 raises some important matters for governors and senior managers in higher education, in particular concerning:
- the nature and effectiveness of the challenge by the board of a dominant chief executive;
- the provision of information to the board and its committees;
- the management of risk at both board and executive levels; and
- the role and effectiveness of the board and the audit committee.
The HEFCE and the Board of Governors of LMU have published a joint statement setting out an agreed course of action to ensure that effective governance and management arrangements are in place.
For regular updates on various matters governors may wish to join the HEFCE Governance e mail list.
