Departmental leadership of teaching in research-intensive environments
This research, carried out by Professor Graham Gibbs, examined leadership within 22 departments from a network of highly research-intensive universities, across eight countries.
UK Universities and their Executive Officers – the changing role of Pro Vice-Chancellors
This research, carried out by David Smith and Jonathon Adams, documented the evolving role of pro vice-chancellors as senior executive officers and asses their centrality to emerging management models in UK universities. Comparisons with leadership structures in European and Australian Institutions will also be investigated.
Effective leadership in higher education
The literature review carried out within this study by Professor Alan Bryman, examines literature about leadership strategies and their effectiveness from the UK, US and Australia.
The management of academic workloads: Improving practice in the sector
This project, undertaken by Professor Peter Barrett, identifies and describes typical practices in the allocation of staff workloads at all levels in UK universities, and describes some interesting alternative practices in non-UK universities and non-university organisations.
The Leadership, Management and Governance of International Collaborative Academic Projects
This project carried out by Nigel Relph, aimed to evaluate the models and factors within, and the institutional governance and managerial factors bearing upon, international collaborative programmes.
