“The course significantly improved my confidence and my ability to take on the role of  head of department: I had been very dubious about it beforehand, but both the facilitators and the participants taught me a lot about my strengths and about the role..”

Professor Kirstein Rummery
Chair in Social Policy
University of Stirling

Heads of Department Series in Scotland (HoDS) is designed to engage and assist those facing the operational challenges associated with the leadership of academic, research and support teams. The programme draws on recent research by the Leadership Foundation on the work of heads of department in order to focus on individualised consideration – paying attention to followers’ needs, recognising personal differences and encouraging potential. HoDS aims to strengthen the capacity of heads of department to perform their roles confidently and effectively in Scottish HEIs.

For more information on the content of the Series, please contact Ginnie Willis, Director, Leadership Development, Scotland T: 01786 430328

The dates for the 2011-12 Cohort of HoDS have not been announced yet. If you are interested in attending please contact Kyra Spinlove, Programme and Events Officer T: 020 7849 6907, who will keep you up-to-date as the dates and venues are organised.
