The HR Business Partner Programme Outline
Aim: To equip senior HR managers/business partners with the competencies, practical approaches and political awareness required to operate as an effective HR professional, capable of adding real value to the delivery of the institutional mission during challenging times
Learning outcomes:
- To understand how senior management teams respond to the current challenges facing HEIs
- To develop an enhanced understanding of how to interpret financial and other key performance indicators
- To consider how best to follow through on strategic level decisions with their operational implementation
- To develop practical engagement and communication action plans which focus on the HR implications of major ‘business’ decisions
- To draw up personal action plans to take forward personal developmental areas arising from all of the above
- To be able to act as change agents with senior staff in the institution
- To consider how HR issues should factor into institutional strategies and plans
Module One: Day One
The day will start at 09.00 with a short registration, the programme will continue into the evening, overnight accommodation and all meals are provided.
Areas covered:
- Global and UK HR context
- Overview of programme and UK higher education context setting
- Top Team Challenges
- Strategic planning in higher education
- Context, culture and competition
- Stakeholder analysis
- Learning group exercises
- Conducting diagnosis of institutional context and culture
- Identifying key motivators for stakeholders
- Evaluating financial KPIs from different perspectives
- Introduction to ‘Trios’ and Trio activity
Module One: Day Two
The day will close at approximately 17.00
Areas covered:
- Learning group exercise – three institutional perspectives (the three case studies)
- Review of institutional performance
- SWOT analysis and risk assessment
- Scenario planning and financial overview
- HR challenges and action plans to address
- Preparation of Council/Board presentation
Module Two: Day Three
The day will start at 09.00 with a short registration and close at approximately 17.00
Areas covered:
- Leading and Managing Change – challenges facing HR Professionals
- Appropriate external speaker e.g., private sector HR Director, local senior higher education leader such as Pro Vice-Chancellor
- Group/Trio work
- Case study work
