  1. Cracking the concrete ceiling: Tracking the impact of the Diversifying Leadership programme (Full report)

    15 May 2019

Professor Jan Fook, Professor Uduak Archibong, Dr Terri Kim and Dr Amanda Aldercotte

This study was commissioned by Advance HE (formerly the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education) to explore leadership development for black and minority ethnic (BME) staff in higher education (HE). This was accomplished through looking at the personal experiences of BME staff and the institutional context, and the impact of Advance HE2019s Diversifying Leadership (DL) programme on these. Specifically, the current project explored two main research questions, looking at the impact that the DL programme had on: The in-depth and complex experiences of participants in the programme, including how this changed over time and how it was affected by the institutional context. Institutional context with regard to the BME staff pipeline and BME leadership.

  2. Transformational Change in the Higher Education Sector

In this paper we reflect on change initiatives within six HEIs across the UK and the degree to which they might be considered ‘transformational’. This research has been undertaken by members of the Managing Complex Change (MCC) research group at the Hertfordshire Business School. MCC is a multidisciplinary research group which takes a practical, theoretical and critical interest in the complexities of change and the role of leaders in public and private sector organisations.
