In 2011-12, the significant changes on the HE horizon were clear, and the University recognised the need for effective collaborative working between academic and professional staff to improve flexibility and ability to adapt to change. The Change Academy process was intended to: facilitate improvements in the student and staff experience; enable a rolling cycle of ideas generation and implementation to encourage innovation and create or enhance sustainable practice; facilitate an opportunity for all staff groups to shape changes in behaviours; challenge the status quo and enhance emergent cultural change.

Lesly is director for membership and innovation, leading on engagement with and services for our 160 member institutions across the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Her portfolio encompasses research, innovation, insight and impact work for members and the wider sector, including our Small Development Projects scheme, longitudinal impact studies and 'What Works' knowledge exchange.
She works with our national and regional assistant directors membership and innovation and policy manager to ensure delivery of high quality benefits, services and resources for members, and to gain insight and understanding into diverse sector needs. Lesly is also lead contact for institutions in the South West of England.
Lesly also leads on Change Academy, one of our strategic consultancy services, and manages and facilitates our Leadership Development Academy in Ukraine with the British Council and Institute of Higher Education in Kiev.
A doctor of education, Lesly has 30 years’ experience in higher education roles spanning staff development, digital technologies, teaching and research, in the UK and internationally. She is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and a Fellow of the AUA.
Lesly has been leading in-house Change Academy processes in the UK and overseas since 2010 and was a member of the national Change Academy team.
