Certainly in England with the advent of higher tuition fees for undergraduate students, governing bodies need to pay increased attention to the quality of the student experience, ensuring that the, for example, information provided to potential students is accurate and not misleading.

Since 2012 universities and colleges in England have had to publish key information sets (KIS) about all of their undergraduate programmes: unistats.direct.gov.uk/find-out-more/key-information-set
The Higher Education Statistical Agency provides statistical data on student enrolments in higher education.
Governors may also wish to monitor student outcomes from the National Student Survey (NSS).
The Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) undertakes an annual survey of the student experience
The National Union of Students offers a range of information on student matters.
The Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education for information on student appeals and complaints.
Student Participation in Quality Scotland (The sparqs initiative) supports the involvement of students in management of quality of assurance in Scottish colleges and universities. A similar initiative is being introduced in England.
