It has been a privilege to take part in a programme that offers the opportunity to work alongside management, academics and administrators to build a new future for the university. These are challenging times and it was a good team building experience.
Do you want the option to save money by running bespoke programmes with other local HEIs? We can help organise this.
In these trying financial times it isn't always appropriate for staff to be away from their desks for too long. Money has to be carefully allocated and well spent.
We have worked with groups of universities in the same region and with similar requirements to provide bespoke programmes for their staff. This has allowed them to train a number of staff at one time, without excessive expenses. Participants have the benefits of discussions with other universities without the need to travel huge distances.
How does this work?
A good example of universities working together in this way are the bespoke programmes we delivered jointly for Newcastle and Durham. Both universities had the same requirement - to develop a leadership programme for newly appointed academic leaders. They combined their resources and subsequently we have successfully delivered five cohorts of this programme, with the sixth cohort being planned to be delivered in this academic year.

We created the Leadership Foundation Coaching Academy, dedicated to Higher Education, about three years ago and it has grown quite substantially since then. We have brought together and developed a group of very experienced coaches, all of whom have worked in a substantial range of institutions in the sector.
We are increasingly asked to offer this service to those in the most senior positions, and we have recently repositioned the service to offer at that level. This builds on our experience of coaching on the Top Management Programme and our practice of confidential advice and support to Vice-Chancellors.

We can help. Running leadership programmes in-house has many real benefits. At a time when everyone is searching for value for money, in-house programmes can be a cost effective way of enhancing the leadership skills of a larger number of participants, on a programme where they will be focused on their own environment and institution's needs. It can be significantly cheaper per head to run the programme in-house for a group of your own staff.

We have a solution. Investment of effort (and money) in purposeful learning activity should involve a contract between the learner, the line manager, the sponsor (often staff development professionals), and the development programme provider. In order to ensure that our events, interventions and programmes make maximum impact we are constantly developing and refining processes to highlight learning and development in higher education. We are happy to share this experience with institutions.

Higher education is now acutely aware of the need to develop a strategic approach to the student experience that supports the institution’s corporate strategy. This means that the institution must define measures of success for the student experience, set out an agenda for action and establish a mechanism for monitoring progress. But how do you assess the success of your method? Benchmarks and targets are set but all too often we become too close to the topic and lose the ability to really assess the results. An outside view from someone who is immersed in the needs of higher education and the students can be a key asset, providing options and alternatives to current strategy. This critical friend can help support, advise, inspire, review, facilitate or just be an independent sounding board.

Higher education is going through a significant period of change that is having far reaching implications. These changes are being driven by a number of factors including internationalisation, globalisation of higher education provision, and increasing competition fuelled in the UK by changing student needs and expectations.
