Governance to 2020 and beyond : Improving effectiveness for a new age

The year is expected to be one of transition and change: some changes foreseen; others currently unknown and only to emerge during the year. Some may affect institutions in all of the devolved nations of the UK, others may only apply to just one of the nation states.

This year’s governor development programme and linked activities, has as its theme Governance to 2020 and beyond: Improving Effectiveness for a New Age. It allows participants the opportunity to anticipate and evaluate the impact of change, while offering practice support and advice about how to successful navigate the changes. In addition to focusing on a changing policy environment GDP has been updated to cover the topics that you have told us are the ones you wish to be supported with. New to this year’s programme are a national conference and reception. Also, newly available is the revised governance effectiveness framework and associated survey tools.

In order to provide this selection of events and seminars, we are working in partnership with a number of key organisations. 

The Governor Development Programme is designed to address the needs of all of our governors across the UK. It is important to note that while days may be flagged as more relevant to particular governors, any governor is welcome to attend any event. In addition to the events covered in this programme we will also be adding additional events/conferences as the year develops to address the evolving situation.

The Governor Development Programme was started in 2005 and built on the earlier initiatives of the Committee of University Chairs (CUC). The programme is designed to support governors in all higher education institutions throughout the UK.
