Professor Cliff Allan

Professor Cliff Allan joined Birmingham City University as vice-chancellor in December 2012 having previously been deputy vice-chancellor at Sheffield Hallam University for over three years, where he was responsible for the development of Sheffield Hallam University’s positioning and corporate strategy, academic portfolio and international strategy.
Cliff’s previous roles include: deputy vice-chancellor at Teesside University; deputy chief executive of the Higher Education Academy; director of the Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN) - established by the UK HE funding bodies to promote excellence and transfer good practices in learning and teaching; and head of Teaching and Learning Policy at Hefce.
Having started his career as a lecturer in International Relations and Politics Cliff went on to work for several charities/agencies in the developing world, primarily developing public policy and educational programmes. He has also been a management consultant, in the further and higher education sectors. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts and has been a member
of various Higher Education bodies.
Cliff is an alumni of TMP 18.
