It’s our 10th anniversary year. Hooray!
Time to celebrate and look ahead. Ten years is an important landmark, but what readers of Engage tell me they really want to know is: how will the LF build on its reputation and provide even better services in the next ten years?
Our reputation has been hard won. Our dedication, agility and quality delivery mean that members can have confidence that we will deliver excellence and add value. 149 HEIs signed up as members this year, but past record is not a guarantee of future success, and we are using our anniversary as a springboard to reach even greater heights.
In this issue, we look across the breadth of leadership development for the future, but I particularly draw your attention to interviews with inspiring leaders and contributions from leading thinkers in higher education on leadership: new thinking for the next decade.
We aim to keep raising the quality bar and commit to a radical agenda for change. We are refreshing all of our leadership and governance programmes, starting with TMP, with new content, pedagogy and learning style. This reflects major, rapid changes in the market, where there is a premium on leaders able to take difficult decisions and make an impact. We are also innovating more quickly: our programmes and research into equality and diversity have made an impact from a standing start. We took our Aurora programme from concept to delivery in under six months and now have over 500 women leaders participating.
When there is less money, governors and leaders able to squeeze out every penny into teaching and research are vital, and the LF must help develop new leaders able to drive efficiency and effectiveness, embracing new themes like entrepreneurship and sustainability. We must also be more affordable and reach out to middle managers and develop leaders at every level. We’re introducing new custom services, including LF Consulting, to meet the growing demand for organisational development in the sector.
We are also looking at how we can enhance our existing programmes and services with appropriate use of technology. Future editions of Engage will be accessible online only, in PDF magazine format and a more flexible,
content-rich web-based version. You get the best out of a motivated, happy team and the LF team deserves a terrific party to celebrate success, all part of building a strong culture, where hard work and achievement are
recognised. You can count on us to serve you and your leadership needs for the future.
We are a membership organisation of and for a sector that has some of the brightest minds in the UK.
Our members are key to our strategy and form a community of higher education institutions with a clear commitment to and experience of developing leadership, governance and management capabilities at all levels. Academic and professional services staff from member institutions contribute to our programmes, projects and research and advise on benefits and services.
