Stimulus Paper, May 2014
The Leadership Foundation wanted to discover how senior managers, academics and professional staff saw institutions leading their staff through these changes to a successful future, and asked Media FHE, a communications and information services agency for the higher education sector, to conduct a series of telephone or face-to-face interviews to investigate this. In total, 19 senior staff and academics at various levels (seven vice-chancellors, three pro vice-chancellors, four deans, two registrars, one principal lecturer, one student services deputy director, and 1 higher education employers’ spokesperson) across a range of institutions were interviewed, some thought-provoking views were captured. We worked to a set of core questions, exploring a variety of issues relating to the overarching theme. However, the interviews were quite freeflowing, and each interviewee inevitably spent more time talking about the issues that most interested or affected them.
We are a membership organisation of and for a sector that has some of the brightest minds in the UK.
Our members are key to our strategy and form a community of higher education institutions with a clear commitment to and experience of developing leadership, governance and management capabilities at all levels. Academic and professional services staff from member institutions contribute to our programmes, projects and research and advise on benefits and services.
