Following the conversation there will be an opportunity for insitutions to commission integrated institutional support to meet their strategic needs from a range of activities which are outlined in this section, and displayed graphically in the figure below.

Tailored in-situ Consultancy Support

Following the strategic conversation with a CLL consultant, many institutions could benefit from focusing their engagement with the CLL programme through further tailored consultancy support, from a defined range of possibilities, to take place at their own sites. We are able to provide advice and support to institutions under specific themes relating to the strategic use of learning technologies (For a detailed list, look at Consultancy Themes.)

This might take the form of:

  • Strategy development activity through facilitation (engaging top management team).
  • Working with a change consultant in the capacity of advisor, mentor or coach.
  • Small scale change academy type events.
  • In-house programmes to develop skills internally for key figures to act as internal change agents / consultants.
  • The provision of specific technical expertise.

The support provided in all cases will be linked to the development of and implementation of Learning and Teaching strategy with a view to building the capacity and capabilities of institutions to take forward strategic change initiatives.

The consultancy support will be made available to institutions throughout the year, following allocation announcements from the Strategic Conversations. Consultancy days allocated must be used by 31 May 2014. The first 5-days of consultancy will be offered free of charge to institutions and all subsequent days charged at a daily rate of £750+VAT may be charged.

NEW: Strategic Leadership in Practice - Cohort 2 

This programme is designed to build capacity of the leaders and team members who are planning and implementing the utilisation of technology based learning in their institutions.

The programme will support leaders and team members, working within a strategic teaching and learning framework mapped out by the senior management, in planning and implementing the project and in providing leadership and management of the changes necessary for the institution to embed new practices.

We aim to:

  • Provide the participants with the knowledge of how major change projects in a technology context are led and managed successfully in organisations.
  • Provide the tools and techniques for involving and engaging staff, students and other key stakeholders from the outset to ensure that projects are seen as engaging and involving. 
  • Provide an understanding of how to provide leadership to individuals and teams and how to exert influence so that the required changes are embedded in an organisation.
  • Provide the participants with the knowledge of how social media and learning technologies are utilised effectively in the UK and across the world, especially in an increasingly BYOT (bring your own technology) environment.
  • Expose participants to the utilisation of learning technologies through application within the context of the programme, and through experiencing their use in institutions in the UK and elsewhere.
  • Help participants become aware of procedural, technical, legal, pedagogical and developmental changes that may be required in order to make effective progress.
  • Create a network of leaders and practitioners that will form a mutual source of support in the implementation of their plans.

Senior Leadership in Practice Dates:

  • Module One: Monday 12 - Tuesday 13 May 2014
  • Module Two: Wednesday 25 - Thursday 26 June 2014
  • Action Learning for Directors: Friday 23 May 2014, AM

Guidance on applying for the Strategic Leadership in Practice programme - Cohort 2:

  1. The project should be central to the university's learning and teaching strategy including enhancing the student experience and must be sponsored by a member of SMT who will be actively involved in taking a lead.
  2. The implementation is led and managed by a multifunction team with leadership by a senior manager and which includes a student representative. This programme will enable others in your institution to play a key role in devising and implementing a new strategy around technology in learning and teaching.
  3. Project team members will benefit from support in implementation, including leading and managing change, project management, communication skills as well as the utilisation of technology based learning through the Strategic Leadership in Practice workshop, On line learning and Action Learning.
  4. The director and members of the team leading the implementation including the student representative will commit to attending the two workshops scheduled as the Strategic Leadership in Practice Programme in May and June 2014.

Leading in the Learning Landscape Network

This network will build on our commitment to continue to support the tremendous sense of innovation and experimentation from CLL 2012-13 by creating a new community of practice. The focus of which will be to support those involved in or new to large-scale strategic engagement in CLL. There will be plenty of opportunity to engage with others around real issues, a chance for you to meet up with those who participated, and get cutting-edge knowledge of the latest developments.
